Having problems with your persona page? Here's some guidance.

Your Persona Page

 

The Persona Home Page is essentially a portal to recently contributed or received content, and friends. If you perform an activity such as commenting on an article, uploading a photo to a public gallery, or writing a blog entry, a link to that activity will be displayed in the Recent Activity section of your Persona Home page. Messages left for you and friends will also be displayed.  The following is the complete list of items that may be present on a user's Persona Home page:

 

Recent Activity: Links to most recent activity (defaults to a maximum of 10 items)

Friends: Links to people the user has designated as "friends"

Pending Friends*: List of people that have requested friendship with the user. The user may accept or decline friendship requests.

Messages: Links to message left for this user by other users

My Latest Discussions: Links to forum discussion posts made by this user

My Watch List*: Links to other content areas for which the user has requested notification when new content becomes available

My Groups: Forum groups that the user is a member of

Recent Photos: Links to photos that the user has recently uploaded. Photos may reside in public or private galleries.

* These items are only visible to the Persona's owner.

 

Your Profile 

The Persona page offers a profile option, in which you can enter some personal information that allows other users to know a bit more about you. However, please bear in mind that this profile is meant to provide some background to your posts and views, not specific information that allows other users to identify you. Giving out your full name, home address, or phone number is not recommended, nor is providing the name of your workplace or place of study. If you share any information about yourself online, it could be collected and used by third parties to send you unsolicited materials.

Although your Persona page initially is public for all to view as will be all your site content, you do have the facility to choose whether to leave it public, have it viewed only by friends or keep it completely private. 

Please remember that this is a public site visible by the whole world and his wife, including Uncle Tom Cobbley and all.  If you choose to leave your profile as public, do not write anything you don't want your children, partner, family, neighbour, and every Tom, Dick or Harry to know about.

 

Adding and amending your details

 

To change any of your details log in to the site and go to My Profile on the Community page.  Click on Edit Community Profile.  This will bring up a page which will allow you to change your public Persona including adding or changing your avatar and some personal information visible to all.

 

Under About Me is a text link for you to change your personal details and email subscriptions.  If you click on this you are taken to a page containing your private details ie name, address, phone number etc which is visible only by you.

 

Here you can change your email address, password, name, address, phone numbers and subscribe or unsubscribe to the email newsletters we send out.  Once you’ve changed any of the fields click on Submit and a message will appear advising that the amendments have been made.

 

Add a friend: where you can choose to add friends to build your personal community.

 

To add someone as a friend, go to their Persona page and click on the Add me as a friend button.  They will receive the request and can opt to be your friend or not, at which point you will be notified. 

Equally they can choose to have you as a friend.  You will be able to accept or refuse these.

 

Messages:  where you can read the messages left by others.

 

To leave a message you must be logged in.  Go to the Persona page of the person to whom you wish to send a message.  Click on Messages tab. Type in the message you wish to leave and click on Leave me a message.

 

Comments: shows the comments you have left around the site together with links to those pages.

 

Photos: where you can see all photos on the site, where you can share your photos, see your photos and galleries.

 

To upload a single photo:  You must be logged in to the site.  Go to your Persona page, click on Photos tab, Click on Share your photos.  If the photo you wish to load is to go in an existing gallery, choose the gallery and under that click on Upload Your Photo.  Click on Browse, select your photo and click on OK and then Upload.

To upload more than one photo:  follow the above but before you click on Upload, click on Add another.  This will give you another field to Browse, select and OK.  Repeat this until all the photos are selected and then click on Upload.

To view all public galleries:  Click on See all public galleries and select those you wish to see.  To add a photo to a public gallery you must be logged in to the site.  Then follow the procedure to upload a single photograph, above.

 

Blog: where you can start or update your personal diary for your friends or the public.

 

To write a blog:  You must be logged in to the site.  Go to your Persona page and click on the Blog tab.  Click on Write New Post and a series of blank boxes will appear. 

In Post Title put the title of this blog entry. 

In Tags put in all those words, each separated by a comma, which would help a search tool to find your blog.  This can be completed after you've added the main body of the text. 

In Abstract (Optional) enter a summary of your post.  This can be formatted using the tools under that box ie bold, underline etc

In Body enter the text you wish to write, formatting it as you wish using the tools under that box.

 

Subscriber number on the old site may not be showing here.  Don't worry, it is still being held in our database but it's just not being displayed at the moment.  This will not affect your ability to see the whole site.

 

Signature

After you have registered, you may set your signature. This is a piece of text or an image that you would like to be inserted at the end of all your posts, a little like having headed note paper.

 

You will have the option to include your signature on any posts you make. If you have specified a signature, then the board will automatically append your signature to any messages you post. You can disable signatures on your Persona Profile page.

 

Avatars (pictures under your username)

These small images are called Avatars. They are displayed below your username on all posts that you make. There are two kinds of avatars: those provided by the administrator (still to come) and those that you upload yourself. You may select an avatar that best describes your personality on your Persona Profile page.
