Join the third Coast reader walk
Join us for our third Coast reader walk. This year, in association with Visit Kent, were off to explore Thanets sandy beaches and chalk cliffs
Once again, its time for the annual Coast Walk. This year, in association with Visit Kent and Thanet Tourism, we are heading to the beautiful coast of Thanet, which has the longest continuous stretch of chalk cliffs in Britain. Its our idea of a perfect day: a delightful setting the seaside town of Broadstairs a bracing coastal walk along sandy beaches taking in geological splendours, then a slap-up cream tea in a fine coastal hotel. All in the sociable company of Coast readers and staff. Last years Coast Walk on Mersea Island, Essex, sold out immediately, so book early to avoid disappointment!
What's going on
The event takes place on Saturday 19 May and will start at Botany Bay, Broadstairs. Choose between two routes: the longer walk (nine miles) starts at 1.15pm and the shorter one (five miles) starts at 2.15pm.
Each will be led by expert local guides who will take us on circular walks along some of the coast including Botany Bay, Joss Bay, Kingsgate and Viking Bay. Youll also get a free ice cream from renowned ice-cream parlour Morellis. Afterwards, well have a well-deserved cream tea at the Fayreness Hotel and a short talk by the Rock Doc, Alasdair Bruce. Everyone will leave with a goodie bag.
Stamina required
Both the nine-mile (16K) and the five-mile (8K) walks are on flat terrain but, as some of the route is along the shoreline, waterproof boots are essential. Please specify which route you would prefer when you book.
How do I join?

Thanet's beaches
The Isle of Thanet is home to three quintessential seaside towns: Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate, with sandy beaches fringed with chalk stacks and cliffs, rich hunting ground for fossils. Our walk is in partnership with Visit Kent and Thanet Tourism for more info about where to visit, see www.visitkent.co.uk and www.visitthanet.co.uk.
