Somewhere to stay: The Llawnroc, Gorran Haven
For modern luxury in the Cornish countryside
What's the buzz?
This new boutique hotel is tucked in a village lane. Previously a pub, it retained its name (Cornwall backwards) and the local feel with the stone exterior, plus grass roof. The bistro/bar and restaurant are also open to non-residents.
Any luxurious touches?
Step inside the vast reception and it already feels pretty decadent. The rooms all have iPod docking stations, PlayStations and Wi-Fi.
What are the rooms like?
All 18 rooms (suites and inter-connecting rooms are also on offer) some with balconies are spacious and individually designed, but with signature touches such as huge beds and coastal art.
Best sea view?
From the back of the hotel, you can look over cottages to the sea and glorious sandy beach.
Any bathroom products?
Travel-sized goodies from seaweed cosmetics company Voya.
How about the food?
We ate in Gwineas bar and bistro (named after the rocks out to sea) and had delicious pan-fried pollock, lemon sole and local steak. Gorrans fine dining restaurant is a more refined affair (no kids). For breakfast, choose from muesli, fruit, porridge, Full English, poached eggs.
From the visitors' book
Roger, Kate and Sophia Foster from Weston-super-Mare: A genuinely child-friendly stylish hotel.
What will it cost me?
Double B&B from £84. (01726 843461, www.thellawnrochotel.co.uk)
