Boathouse bolthole

David and Jocelyn Fawcett bought a tumbledown boathouse in St Mawes, Cornwall, and turned it into the ultimate coastal bolthole. Surrounded by water and with room to store their boats, it couldn\'t suit their nautical life better.

Perfect for sailing

The Boathouse is right on the shoreline at St Mawes, with its own slipway - perfect for the Fawcetts, who love sailing.

Easy cedar

The exterior is clad in untreated cedar, chosen because it needs little or no maintenance.

Home sweet sail

The Cornish shrimper Tadpole sits beside the tender to the Fawcetts\' yacht in the boatshed that is built into their home. The life rings display the name of the house.

Wooden wonder

Custom-made sofas sit either side of a Zulu rug, with a woodburner placed in the centre. The Fawcetts\' children found the wooden surfboard (far right) in Newquay.

Kitchen magic

The large kitchen, just off the living area, is all open plan; the bar stools are from John Lewis.

Mirror, mirror

The kitchen island unit is topped with a worktop containing mirrored particles that glitter beautifully.

Light fantastic

The fantastic shell light shades in the hallway came from Illumina in Truro, and make a striking feature.

Seeing circles

The second bedroom features one of Jocelyn\'s favourite windows, a porthole window.

Keeping cool

A large south-facing decked area with sailcloth shades gives plenty of outdoor space for enjoyin both the sun and those incredible views.
