The Coast Awards 2010 - the results
Your votes have been counted and the judges have decided so here are the people, places and businesses that make our coastline special
This year's Coast Awards, in association with Joules, have been bigger and better than ever, with a huge response from readers - you voted in your hundreds for every category. The winners enjoyed a special pat on the back at our first ever Awards ceremony, hosted by Countryfile presenter Julia Bradbury at the Country Living Fair in March (left, with Coast's Clare Gogerty). And we're especially grateful to our sponsors, Joules Clothing (www.joulesclothing.com), for helping to make it such a special occasion.
As in previous years, winners for the Best Beach and Best Family Holiday Destination were decided on reader votes alone, while your highest-scoring nominations in the remaining eight categories went before our expert judging panel: chef Galton Blackiston, Julia Bradbury, Nikwax founder Nick Brown, coastal entrepreneur Jo Fairley, chief executive of the Ramblers Tom Franklin, head of external communications for the RNLI Spencer Gammond, Coast editor Clare Gogerty, Joules Clothing MD Tom Joule and historian Professor John K Walton, who discussed their various merits at length. We are delighted to reveal the outcome of their ruminations here...
