Hi Willows. Is it a phalaenopsis (moth orchid)? Some, but not all, will flower again on an existing stem if you cut the dead flower off just above a healthy bud (use secateurs to get a clean cut). If there is no flower stem and it hasn't flowered for ages, try moving it to a warmer location for about 4 weeks and then back to its usual home.
If it's not a moth orchid, I don't know but by coincidence, my husband mentioned last night that there's an orchid talk near us next month and I could ask for you if you can say what type you have.

Hello Devonmaiduk, thanks so much! Yes it is a phalaenopsis, and I'll have a look at the stem and where to cut it, and I'll move it, too - fingers crossed
