  • A place for chickens

I have recently had a desire to keep chickens, not a flock just two or three. I wonder whether anyone could tell me there thoughts? I do live in the countryside on a small new build housing estate with a fairly good sized garden. I do have two very small dogs and have neighbours that have cats. Do you think what I can offer in terms of a good home are adequate? Also they would be pets first and layers second anyone tips for breeds? I did see some silkies which are very attractive but wonder if they would be hardy enough.

Any comments would be gratefully appreciated!

  • London Marathon

Oh my goodness I am running the marathon on Sunday in aid of the British Lung Foundation! I am definitely as my son lovingly calls me a chubby athlete but after all of the training slightly less so.My husband has lung disease and I am hoping to raise £5000 towards the fantastic work done by the foundation. No matter how breathless I will be it will be nothing compared to the breathlessness suffered by lung disease sufferers doing the simplest tasks every day.
Last year I completed the Great North Run and felt I needed a bit more challenge now I feel the marathon will definitely be a challenge.

  • any suggestions?

    Hi There

Iv seen some of the blogs & the answers people get so thought I would ask for your help.

I hurt my back in October and am still suffering pain , doing what the doc says and trying to get on with leading my life, albeit at a very different pace.

I have been advised never to run again and cant do more than ten minutes walking so the inevitable has happened. My body has turned into something akin to the mitchlin tyre chap, or that of an over zealous dough oozing over the sides of the bowl, very yuk.

So I would like suggestions please, I have cut back on portion size but am now a stone heavier than October due to the lack of movement, what could I do to get toned, lose the stone and feel I am in control again

    thanks

  • Reflection

After being confined to the house for the last 12 days with a couple of suspected cracked ribs I decided to do something before going completely barmy with boredom and came across this site via my favourite magazine. I have never blogged before and often wondered what people actually blogged about and now realise that you can blog about anything and everything and isn't it great ! I have found that the days can be very, very long when you are confined to 4 walls and this in turn has made me think of all the people out there that have no choice but to look at the same 4 walls day in and day out, be them elderly, lonely or disabled. I am usually in very good health, have a loving husband, a good sprinkling of children, stepchildren and grandchildren, a few good friends and live in a lovely part of the country, what have I got to moan about ? To one and all I say count your blessings every day. I certainly intend to from now on xx

  • Little White Lies OR Great Big PORKIES!

I'm sure I used to be an honest girl so why is it i've turned into a compulsive liar? Motherhood has to be the answer I convince myself! Five years ago I gave birth to my gorgeous son, and it only dawned on me at christmas just how much mothers, fathers, aunties, uncles, yes we are all culprits tell little white lies, medium sized lies and great big whoppers! I'm trying to think when it started and I really cant put my finger on it so it must have been a gradual process. Take old Father Christmas for example my son is really starting to ask lots of questions now and I am digging myself deeper and deeper into a black hole giving far fetched answers, I even told him that all the santa's at events, in supermarkets, zoo's etc are not the real father christmas but are his little helpers so when one of these little helpers told my son that he would be coming down his chimney on christmas eve, my son asked me, 'why did little santa say that mummy?'! I then tried to explain whilst desperatley trying to convince him and myself that little santa just wants to be big santa, but we know better I whispered! On the subject of father christmas my friend told me she went shopping to Tesco with her five year old daughter and santa was stood outside the supermarket greeting all the excited children they said hello and then went and did their shopping but when they came out santa was now Mrs Santa! My friends little girl asked 'Mummy why is father christmas wearing a skirt now?'! I couldnt stop laughing when she told me this.
