Love blossoms - with eco speed dating
How the men and women got on at our dating event
Romantic volunteers turned out in force at the eco-speed dating event in York on 7 February, run by environmental volunteering charity BTCV in partnership with Country Living.
The 17-strong group (nine women and eight men) were blessed with a crisp, sunny winter's day and got to work, chatting and making friends whilst planting trees at a York nature reserve. They also helped out a local bee-keeper by clearing scrub away from around the hives. Some of the volunteers travelled to York from as far as Shropshire and London so the break for tea, homemade cakes and biscuits went down particularly well.
"I've had so much fun, everyone was so friendly and I feel that I've achieved something for the environment at the same time," says one volunteer. "Fingers crossed I get a date out of it!"
The results? Seven dates confirmed, plus 400 new hawthorn and blackthorn trees safely tucked in. We'll be watching to see how things grow!
