And the winner is...
Your votes have been counted and the judges have decided – now it’s time to celebrate the people, places and businesses that make our coastline special.
“A new spirit energised the British coast,” says Coast editor Clare Gogerty. “There has been a real excitement as beaches have cleaned up their act, new boutique hotels have opened and regeneration schemes have brought life back to forgotten resorts.”
We launched our first Coast Awards in November, and around a thousand of you nominated your favourite seaside people and places. We tallied up the votes for each category to determine the winners of the readers’ awards – chosen solely by you – for Best Beach and Best Fish & Chip Shop
Meanwhile, your top three choices in the remaining categories went forward to our expert judging panel. Perhaps not surprisingly, you chose to short-list two of our judges – the author and TV presenter Nicholas Crane and Rocco Forte Collection design director Olga Polizzi, who owns Hotel Tresanton. In these instances, the judges left the room during the discussion of their respective categories and did not vote.
