Best regional pigs: Oxford Sandy and Black
Regional breeds were developed to suit the conditions of their local area, helping them to survive in times of hardship.
The Oxford Sandy and Black breed - sandy-coated with black patches - would originally have been found in Oxfordshire around 200 years ago, and was a free-range, scrub-loving, woodland pig.
It is an ideal outdoor pig, and is a hardy and pleasant breed, perfect for beginners.
