Best lawn-mowers: Roman goose

Geese are excellent grass nibblers and will happily neaten up your straggly lawn but they are not the best gardeners, so opt for a smaller, less bullish breed such as the Roman.
This pure white, rather chubby goose is friendly and tactile - perfect for a beginner.
As with all geese, if they're not trampling your delicate plants, they'll be gobbling them up, so be sure to fence off any favourite spots.
