Venetian lions

The city of Venice is full of majestic lions, from frescos to sculptures, bridges to balconies. It's a proud beast, as you might imagine; when seated it represents the majesty of the state, walking it symbolises Venetian sovereignty over its dominions. And it makes a great picture too.
