Country style Christmas stocking
A design with rural charm
Enlarge stocking template (below) by 800 per cent. Cut
out two stocking pieces from fabric and one strip 25cm x 5cm for hanging loop or use ribbon for loop. Enlarge heart template (below) by 400 per cent. Trace heart onto Bondaweb. Cut out roughly. Iron onto wrong side of gingham fabric and cut out heart accurately. Iron heart
onto right side of one stocking piece and stitch in place using a close zigzag stitch on the machine.
With right sides together, pin and stitch the stockings together around outer curved edge, taking 1cm seam allowances. Neaten seam allowances. Turn right side out and press. Neaten top edge, then press under 2cm hem around and stitch.
Press under 1cm on both long edges of hanging loop. Press in half and stitch. Fold in half to make a loop and stitch inside back edge of stocking. To make contrast band, pin and stitch shorter edge of band together. Press seam allowances open. Fold band in half. Pin and stitch to wrong side of stocking top. Neaten seam allowances. Fold band onto right side, then trim top with ric-rac braid or ribbon, before attaching hanging loop.
