How to customise garden tools

Jazz up basic gardening tools as a special gift for a stylish gardener

Paint the handles in your choice of colour - a bright colour will be easy to find among the plants. Leave to dry thoroughly. Then paint on the dots, randomly spaced, by hand. When completely dry, finish with a coat of clear polyurethane. Trowel and fork from a selection at B&Q (0845 609 6688).

 
Tip
Store small garden tools with the blades in a mix of sand and a little engine oil. The sand will keep them sharp and the oil will keep them rust free.
