Revamp your summer furniture
Replace the fabrics on your garden chairs for a quick and easy new look
What you will need
Fabric scissors
Cotton
Fabric
Calculate how much fabric you need by using the back and seat as a guide, double it, then multiply by the number of chairs you wish to cover. Choose a heavy-duty fabric suitable for outdoor use, such as Guadeloupe F5582/02 outdoor fabric, £51 a metre from Osborne and Little, used above.
How to cover your chairs
Begin by removing the existing fabric from the wooden supports, using the old back and seat as a template for your new covers. Remember that you'll see both sides, so you'll need to double the fabric over to show the design.
Hem each end of the fabric for the back rest with a gap wide enough to slide onto the chair. For the seat, slot your fabric into the wooden supports and then slide back into the legs.
