Quick and easy curtains: bay-window curtains
Make easy work of tricky angles with this simple guide
Use a simple heading on short curtains that need to fit exactly inside an alcove. Either line the curtains as for puffball curtains or hem the sides of the curtains. Press a turning approximately 6cm deep across the top of the curtains. Pin the curtain tape 5cm from the top edge, turning under the tape at both sides. Insert a few curtain hooks and check that this is the correct depth before stitching. Adjust the depth of the turning, if necessary. Stitch the tape in place, stitching across both ends of the tape several times to secure the drawcords. Pull up the drawcords from the centre of the curtain to the required width.
Knot the cords and use a cord tidy to conceal them. Do not cut the drawcords as you will need to undo the gathers for washing or dry-cleaning later.
