Make a stylish door curtain
A lined, woollen curtain across your front door will help to keep the heat in and your fuel bills down
What you'll need
● Large patterned woollen blanket or throw
● Another woollen blanket for the border
● Thick lining fabric
● Pins
● Fabric scissors
● Sewing machine
● Tape measure
● Curtain pole
How it's done
Measure the width and length of your door to work out what size blanket you'll need or how much of a border you'll have to add. Bear in mind, the curtain will need to be folded over at the top to make a pocket for the pole. The total width of your curtain, including side panels, must be the width of the doorway plus a half.
Take the blanket you're using for the border and cut two large panels, adding a 1.5cm seam allowance on each long side.
Take the other blanket and lay it right side up. Place the border panels on top, right sides down, so the outside raw edges are on top of the long edges of the blanket. Pin together the two long outside edges (see below left) and sew. Fold open the panels so they lay flat with the seam underneath.
Cut a piece of lining to the size of the blankets, plus a 1.5cm seam allowance. Lay the lining on top of the curtain, right sides together, pin and sew along the seam allowance on each long side. Hem the bottom edge.
Turn right side out and lay flat with the patterned blanket side facing up. Fold the top edge over to make a pocket large enough for the pole, then pin and sew. Push the pole through the pocket and hang the curtain.
