Flower-arranging: candle and pine cone centrepiece

Transform a glass cake stand into a stunning tablecentre

 

 

What you'll need:

● Spray paint
● Pine cones
● 3 or 4 church candles
● Ribbon in two different
widths and colours
● Pins
● Plain cake stand
● Eucalyptus or ivy
● Wire or string

 

Before you begin

Both eucalyptus and ivy will work wrapped around the base of the candles, and it’s easy to change the look with ribbons in different colours. If you don’t already have a cake stand, they’re usually easy to find and inexpensive to buy. Try your local charity shop.

 

How it's done

Spray the pine cones with paint, such as Plasti-Kote's Satin Super, £5.99 for 400ml. Set aside.

Measure the circumference of the candles. Cut the ribbons so they overlap by about 2cm.

Wrap the broadest ribbon around the candle and secure in place by pushing a pin into the wax, then repeat with a narrower ribbon over the top (see left). Repeat for all candles.

 

Arrange the candles in the centre of the plate so that the sides with pins face inwards. Lay the eucalyptus or ivy around the candles, using thin wire or string to bind it to form a ring. Place the dry pine cones around the edge.
