Flower arranging: pepper and lily centrepiece
A creative centrepiece mixing flowers and veg to bring original summer flair to any table
Preparation time: 20 - 30 minutes
You will need
● 1 stalk each of white and orange lilies
● 2 large red peppers
● A small piece of moistened floral foam
● Plastic floral picks or bamboo skewers
● 1 floral adhesive pick
● 1 dinner plate
To create:
Apply the four-pronged floral pick to the plate; cut a small piece of moistened floral foam, approximately 1/4 of a block slightly angled and insert it on the pick.
Push the skewers into the peppers at the angle from which they look most interesting, then insert them in the foam. They should be slightly converging and form a rough triangle pointing upwards.
Choose a very open lily, either orange or white. Place it at the base of the peppers, without letting it touch the table. Add another smaller flower beside or above it. Turn the plate and do the same on the other side with the other lilies.
Add a few more smaller buds to fill in any spaces left without crowding. Take care not to go much higher than the peppers. Remember, lilies are beautiful flowers but their pollen can leave quite a stain, so make sure to take off the anthers before they ripen.
