Knitted cakes: fruit cake

Materials
● 4-ply yarn in pale yellow, mid brown, beige and dark brown
● pair of 23/4mm/no12 needles
● foam block, 9x10cm rectangle, 2cm thick
Abbreviations
alt: alternate; C6B: cable 6 back. slip next sts to cable needle and hold at back, K3, K3 from cable needle; C6F: cable 6 front, as C6B but hold cable needle in front; dec: decrease; foll: following; g-st: garter stitch (every row knit); inc: increase; K: knit; P: purl; patt: pattern; rem: remaining; rep: repeat; RS: right side; st(s): stitch(es); st-st: stocking stitch; WS: wrong side
Front and back
(Both alike.) Using yellow, cast on 25 sts. Work 6cm in st-st. Inc 1 st at each end of next row. Work 3 rows, inc 1 st at each end of next row. 29 sts. Cont in st-st until piece measures 10cm. Cast off.
Side piece
(Make 1.) Using mid brown, cast on 92 sts. Work 2cm in st-st. Cast off.
To make up
Trim foam to resemble a slice of bread. Place front and back pieces on either side of foam, sew side piece to front and back. Join short ends of side piece. Embroider currants and raisins to front and back using Swiss darning and embroider the top with bullion knots.
