The Gentle Art of Stitching by Jane Brocket
How amazing is Jane Brocket? The ultimate domestic goddess, we adored her previous books on the gentle arts of knitting, quilting and domesticity: we want her lifestyle and we want it now! There seems to be no end to her homemaking abilities; this latest work is all about stitching, focusing on embroidery to needlepoint, patchwork and cross stitch (and some more obscure kinds of needlework too). As always, there are patterns to follow, but the real joy here is in the amazing presentation and rich text - this is a book to savour at bedtime, not just flick through on the sofa.

Hooray - another Madeline Weston book, with a delightful collection of patterns from the 1930s, 40s and 50s updated for modern yarns and sizes. From pretty lacy tops to twinsets, there are more than 20 designs to choose from. Some of our favourites are the Hedy Tyrolean-Pattern cardigan, the essence of 1940s style; and the Betty lace stockings knitted with a touch of mohair for warmth.

It shows you how stunning a home-crafted home can look, with brilliant tips on mixing colours and textures to create a harmonious overall effect, room by room (including your precious creative space). It's crammed with exciting ideas and makes you want to hand-craft everything in your home. A must-read.

This girly book is full of decorations and wall art to make as well as other bits and bobs to make your home feel cosy, like lavender-scented bath salts, block-printed napkins and teacup candles.
