Combine bright flowerheads and coloured floating candles on a shallow dish.

Add water to a shallow dish in a neutral shade - or go for a colour to tone or contrast with your flowers and candles. Trim the stalks from seven large-headed flowers - gerberas and green spidery chrysanthemums are used here. Place the flowerheads gently on the surface of the water so that they float.

This arrangement is great for gerberas, which have a tendency to wilt at the top of the stem if they're not wired.

Add four floating candles in the centre of the dish where the water is deepest. Light the wicks. Keep an eye on this arrangement, as you would with any naked flame, making sure that no petals overhang the flames.
