For a fairytale festive decoration that will be popular with adults as well as children, bake a gingerbread house. And if you want to, you can eat it!

Print out and enlarge the template to your desired size. Cut out the shapes to use as templates for cutting the gingerbread. On the gingerbread, cut four of the rectangle shape: two for the walls and two for the roof. Cut two of the pointed shape for the end walls.

How to make gingerbread

200g (8oz) flour
10ml (2tsp) ground ginger
5ml (1tsp) mixed spice
100g (4oz) soft brown sugar
100g (4oz) butter
30ml (2tbsp) milk
60ml (4tbsp) black treacle or golden syrup

Place flour and spices in a bowl and make a well in the middle.

Heat remaining ingredients in a saucepan gently until butter has melted.

Cool mixture a little (2 mins) before adding to dry ingredients.

Mix with a wooden spoon until a soft ball is formed.

Once cool, roll out on a floured work surface to a thickness of 0.5cm (1/4")Bake at 180*C (350*F) for 10-15mins.

Cool for 3 mins before transferring to a wire rack.
