All you need for mulled wine, these sachets make a great gift
Cut muslin into a circle measuring around 20cm in diameter.
Spoon the spices into the centre. For each sachet allow 1tsp cloves, 1tsp allspice berries, 3 cardamom pods, a short length of cinnamon stick and star anise. (If you have a recipe you prefer, substitute the spices accordingly.)
On a luggage label or gift tag, write 'Christmas mulled wine sachet' listing the ingredients. On the other side write the recipe: '2 bottles red wine, 1 litre water, juice and rind of 1 orange, 1 sliced lemon, 1 spice sachet. Simmer in a large pan for 10 minutes. Do NOT boil. Add 2tbsp brandy and sugar to taste. Stir well and serve in warmed glasses. Cheers!'
Tie the bag shut with colour-fast cord or string, including the label and a length of cinnamon stick.
