Transform a bedside cabinet
Give an inexpensive pine chest of drawers a vintage French look with this easy makeover
You will need:
● Scandinavia natural pine three-drawer bedside chest, £29.99, Argos (0870 600 2020), or similar
● 2 lengths of MDF decorative edge trim, £3.99 per length, Jali (01227 833333)
● screwdriver
● ruler
● pencil
● saw
● strong wood glue
● paintbrush
● eggshell primer and eggshell paint in Lime White, Farrow & Ball (01202 876141)
● 3 fancy drop handles £2.69 for two, Homebase (0845 077 8888), or similar
Step 1: Make up the chest of drawers following the manufacturer's instructions. Measure and cut four pieces of decorative trim to fit along bottom edges of each side of chest of drawers, making sure the design is centrally positioned.
Step 2: Glue trim in place securely and leave to dry.
To finish: Remove knobs from drawers. Paint chest and drawer fronts with two coats of primer followed by two coats of eggshell, leaving to dry between coats. Paint new handles and leave to dry before fixing to drawer fronts, securing with strong wood glue, if necessary.
