Jewellery designer Stephanie Lewis-Cooper despaired when she saw jewellery kits on sale 'with poor-quality components in designs nobody would want to wear' - so she decided to make high-quality jewellery kits which are truly tasteful and will give years of use. Her kits for bracelets, earrings and necklaces come exquisitely packaged with full instructions; we love this bracelet kit, suitable for an intermediate crafter, which includes Czech beads, Rocailles beads, and 22 Swarovski crystal 6mm pearls, as well as the wire and beadcaps to complete the project. You will need your own wire cutters, pliers and bead mat.

Here's another of Bead Addict's lovely kits (check out the website for many more, as well as a great selection of general jewellery making supplies). Perfect for bridesmaids or special occasions, you can make this delicate cloud of a necklace in pink, green or blue. It's made by crimping, stringing and knotting Swarovski crystals, Rocailles beads, Czech glass beads and Miyuki cubes onto an almost invisible illusion thread, where they appear to float.

Designer Cathie Brown at Bluestreak Beads is another maker of special jewellery kits - among her most popular designs are its big bead necklaces like this one, which is made with 16mm pearls threaded onto a suede thong. The illustrated instructions are lovely and clear and all you need as an extra are your own pliers.

If you want to create your own jewellery designs, this is the perfect kit to put on your Christmas gift list! This simple but pretty kit with metal and rose quartz beads and waxed flax thread is a good kit for a total beginner to jewellery making. You'll need scissors, pliers and something to hold the threads in place.

A wonderfully colourful and fun felting kit - you felt your own woolly beads, then string them onto elastic. We also love Gilian's felt rose corsage kits, complete with brooch backs, also available from John Lewis - they'd be perfect for accessorising your winter coat, top or even the dog's collar.

But for adults they make a great range of vintage-style jewellery kits, of which our favourite is this button jewellery kit. It contains everything you need to make a long necklace or a short necklace, bracelet and brooch, using felt, ribbon and over 150 gorgeously random buttons. You can choose between six colourways. We also like their vintage corsage kit.

Famous for its ribbons and accessories, V V Rouleaux make various craft kits, including this one for a pretty 1920s-style headband that doubles as a fascinator. The peacock blue, green, black and grey feathers come with silver toned metal brooch clips, a white headband and diamanté buttons, as well as instructions.
