Christmas invitation to make

These ideas were demonstrated by Sheila Haliwell at the Crafts for Christmas show 2009.

Make a Christmas invitation

● Take a 7 x 5in card blank and using it in landscape format

● Make a vertical perforated line 1.5in in from the right-hand side. This will be the tear-off ‘RSVP' section.

● Select a photograph from your computer file and using the Canon Selphy photo printer, add text to the left-hand side of the photo and RSVP text to the right of the photo. Print, and then cut the RSVP section off.

● Mat and layer both sections of the photo onto three layers of contrasting card and attach to the card blank.

● Cut a length of ribbon to fit below the main photo and tie a knot around it. Attach the ribbon to the card and then add a small ribbon knot below the RSVP panel.

● Decorate with sparkly Christmas tree embellishments and adhesive gem stones to complete.

Make a napkin holder for female guests

● Measure a piece of card to 3" x 12" and make two score lines at 4.5" and 9"

● Fold along the score lines and glue the longest end down to create the back panel of the holder. Cut along the remaining short edge with fancy scissors.

● Round the top two corners of the longest panel and then highlight all the edges of the holder with fluid chalk.

● Measure approximately 0.5" below the fancy edge and 0.5" in from each side then punch two holes through both thicknesses of card and set an eyelet in each hole. Tie a length of ribbon through each of the holes and trim off the excess.

● Make a small rectangular panel using four layers of contrasting card and attach this to the bottom of the napkin holder using adhesive foam pads. Personalise the panel using sticky letters.

● Fold napkin and place in holder to complete.

Napkin holder for male guests

● Cut a length of card to 1" x 11" and score lines at 0.75", 4.25" and 7.75".

● Fold along the score lines and then cut the longest scored panel to a point to resemble the end of a belt.

● Highlight each of the edges with fluid chalk.

● Cut a square (1.25" x 1.25") from plain card and round all four corners. Cut a slightly larger square and round the corners before attaching the two squares together. Highlight the edges with fluid chalk.

● Place a metal snap in the top left corner of the squares and then personalise with sticky letters. Attach this to the centre panel of the strip using foam pads. Punch two holes to the right of the square and add two eyelets.

● Add a magnetic clasp to the pointed end of the strip and then fold a napkin in half and wrap the strip around it. Add a final magnetic clasp to the inside of the strip to hold together.

Children's sweet tube

● Take a toilet roll tube and cover it with a length of patterned paper or card.

● Decorate the top and bottom edges with strips of glitter card cut with fancy scissors.

● Add a Christmas embellishment to the tube. Cut a small 'luggage type' tag from patterned card and personalise it using sticky letters.

● Add it to the tube using an adhesive foam pad.

● Place a cellophane bag in to the tube and fill with sweets.

● Tie a bow around the bag using organza ribbon.
