mosaic letter to make

Paint a maché letter white all over and leave to dry. Trace around the letter on plain paper.

To smash the china, find an old, hard surface to work on, or do it outside - you may damage a table top. Wrap the china in a thick terry towel and smash with a hammer until you have lots of small pieces.

Arrange these on the paper letter to plan the layout, handling with care as edges may be sharp. Transfer to the maché letter, glueing in place with PVA glue. When completely dry, cover with grout. Wipe away surplus grout with a damp cloth and leave to dry. Finish by polishing with a dry cloth.
