From fabric, cut two rectangles 14cm x 16cm. From red felt, cut two ‘combs' and two strips 18cm x 2cm for legs. Cut legs into three strips to within 1cm of top. Plait legs to within 2cm of bottom. Stitch securely. From yellow felt, cut two 2.5cm squares. Fold each in half to make beak pieces. Tack beak and combs to one rectangle as shown.

With right sides together, pin and stitch the two rectangles together on three sides taking 1cm seam allowances and leaving gap in one side for turning through. Fold so that side seams match, and pin across lower edge.

Slip legs inside at corners and stitch across bottom. Turn right side out. Sew on two small black beads for eyes. Fill with rice and sew up gap in stitching.
