Make a gathered lampshade

This easy-to-make lampshade is ideal for the bedroom

Floral lampshade

To make a gathered floral shade to fit over a 25cm white lampshade, cut a rectangle of fabric 100cm x 20cm.

Pin and stitch short edges together, taking 1cm seam allowances. Neaten edges together and press to one side. See diagram below.

Press under 5mm then 1cm around top edge and stitch, leaving a gap for elastic.

Thread a 22cm length of 5mm wide elastic through casing. Overlap ends and stitch securely. Sew up gap in stitching.

Press under 5mm, then 2cm around lower edge and stitch.

Place over lampshade.
