Add a feminine touch to a bed cover with ribbon-fashioned roses
Revamp a plain bedspread with this simple yet stunning idea. The flowers, held in place by discreet safety pins, can be removed easily for washing. This idea also works well on a woollen blanket or cushion.
What you'll need
● Bedspread
● Wire-edged coloured ribbon
● Scissors
● Safety pins
● Needle
● Thread
How it's done
Cut the wired ribbon into 40cm lengths. You'll need one length for each flower.
To make a flower, take a length of ribbon. Gently pull one of the wires out at one end, fold it back and twist it round itself a couple of times to secure it.
Turn the ribbon round and at the other end of the length, hold the end of the same piece of wire you have just pulled out and gently pull, pushing the ribbon down and gathering it as you go. As you pull and gather, you'll find the length of ribbon naturally twists.
Once the whole length is in a twirl, knot the end of the wire and cut off the excess. Wind the twisted ribbon round your finger to form a flower shape. Secure the outside end of the ribbon by sewing it to the underneath of the flower to hold the flower in shape. Sew on a safety pin to the bottom of each flower. Pin together in groups of three over the bedspread.
