Quick and easy curtains: trimmed panel
Great for beginners, this simple technique will give your curtains an instant lift
The easiest curtain of all is simply a panel of fabric clipped onto curtain rings. Either hem a panel of fabric or use a ready-made curtain, which can work out cheaper than buying the same amount of curtain fabric. To adapt tab-top curtains, buy them extra long to allow for the deep top fold. Cut away the tab-top finish and stitch a hem onto the right side of the fabric - note that wrong side of fabric will show.
To trim the curtain, cut a 35cm-wide strip of contrasting fabric 3cm longer than finished curtain. Press under 1.5cm on all edges. Press in half lengthwise. Slip over edge of curtain and stitch in place.
Make a deep fold onto the right side across the top of the curtain and clip onto the curtain rings.
