Buy a new felt pad to give your board a better ironing surface. They're available to cut to size at John Lewis (020 7629 7711).

To work out the amount of fabric needed, measure your ironing board, adding on 10cm all around for hem and wrap.

Lay ironing board on fabric and draw around outer edge, adding on 10cm all round, and cut out. Neaten edge of fabric. Press under 1.5cm hem and stitch, leaving a gap in stitching at the wider end.

Thread a length of string through the hem. Place on ironing board. Pull up string and fasten ends securely to fit board.
