Make a toy bag

toy bag to sew

Cut a 112cm x 52cm rectangle and a 36cm diameter circle of fabric and lining. Cut two rectangles of fabric 36cm x 6cm for handles.

Draw a 24cm-high heart on Bondaweb and iron onto wrong side of contrasting fabric. Cut out.

Remove paper backing and iron heart onto centre of rectangle 10cm above lower edge. Zigzag stitch around edge of heart.

Pin and stitch side edges of rectangle together, taking 1.5cm seam allowances. Pin and stitch base to side of bag. Repeat for lining.

Cut a 36cm-diameter circle of thick card and place at base of bag. Insert lining with side seams matching and stitch base seam allowances together by hand to keep the card in place.

With fabric and lining together, fold under 1cm, then 5cm around top edge of bag. Pin and stitch. Press 1cm onto wrong side on all edges of handles. Press in half and stitch.

Position handles in place on sides of bag, 8cm down from top edge. Stitch securely in place.
