Sew a big beach bag
Pretty yet practical, a wipe-clean b-i-g beach bag will carry all your necessities
You will need:
60cm of 120cm or wider fabric and matching thread. Use PVC-coated fabric for a waterproof, wipe-clean bag. We used Bleached Summer Blossom Oilcloth from Cath Kidston (0845 026 2440 or www.cathkidston.co.uk)
How to makeCut out two rectangles 60cm x 50cm for bag and two rectangles 60cm x 8cm for handles.
Pin and stitch bag pieces together at sides and lower edge.
Fold bottom corners of bag with seams matching and stitch across as shown, so seam is 18cm long. Trim away excess seam allowance.
Press under 1cm on both long edges of straps. Press straps in half lengthwise and stitch close to both edges. Press under 1cm then 3cm around top edge of bag. Slip ends of straps under hem, 20cm apart. Stitch hem in place. Fold straps upwards and stitch around top edge of bag, stitching through straps as well.
Tip: If you find it hard to tack oilcloth, use paperclips to hold edges together, instead.
