Craft books: A Stitch in Time
This breathtakingly enormous collection of vintage knitting and crochet patterns, itself a reprint of a 1972 classic, is a treasure for every knitter's library. It makes for hours of browsing as well as knitting, with its reproductions of wonderfully chic and romantic 1920-1949 patterns with names evocative of times gone by like ‘Such a debonair little jumper', and ‘pretties' for knitted underwear. Next to the original instructions, the authors have adapted the same patterns for modern knitters, with new photographs which bring them to life. Now we just can't wait for Volume Two, due in 2011, with patterns from the 1950s and 1960s.
