Food swaps to cut cals

Large beef burger with cheese and onions

Which way with beef?

SWAP Beefburger and fried onions in a bun, 419 cals, 24.9g fat
FOR Lean steak and salsa in a pita, 252 cals, 3.9g fat
WHY? Eat lean steak (less than five per cent fat) instead of a beef burger (up to 20 per cent fat), and your heart, as well as your waistline, will thank you. Lean steak is also richer in anaemia-protective iron and zinc. Give the fried onions a miss if you’re weight watching – the safer option is fat-free salsa, a good source of disease-protective antioxidants due to the tomato content. What’s more, by swapping a bread bun for a pita, you’ll be helping keep down the calorie count, while also reducing the glycaemic index of your diet.
