It probably comes as no surprise to find that three-quarters of British women are unhappy with their body shape. We compare ourselves with Hollywood stars and when we don’t measure up (let’s face it, who does?), we can’t help but feel dissatisfied.
To be happy, you have to accept yourself – not by doing nothing because you think there’s no point, but by taking care of your health and feeling good about yourself. When you look in a mirror, focus on your good points and stop obsessing about what you’d like to change. Instead of always envying svelte, immaculate 20-somethings, take pride in your thick hair (even if there is the odd grey one), your beautiful eyes (including any fine lines) or your great legs (despite the odd dimple).
Bottom line: If you feel good about yourself and value yourself, then you’ll be valued by other people and your confidence will begin to soar.
Don’t settle for being treated like a doormat, at work or at home. Every day, remind yourself of your strengths, your achievements and your assets. Treat yourself like your best friend – if she felt down about something, you’d be quick to reassure her and remind her of all her good points, wouldn’t you?
Now take our quick quiz to see how much you love yourself...
