25 ways to turn back the clock

11. Fast massage

Olay facialist Anastasia Achilleos recommends the following massage to eliminate puffiness. "Place your palms on your cheeks with your fingertips resting on your forehead. Make circular movements to your forehead and cheeks backwards and forwards five times. Then rest your fingertips on your chin. Massage small circular movements outwards to your ears; repeat five times. Slide your hands down to your collarbone and make large circular movements out to your shoulder and back in; repeat five times. Lastly, slide hands up and down your neck to connect all the movements together."

12. Bold brows

Fill in sparse brows with a Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil, £2.99, or Ruby & Millie Brow Colour, £10 .

13. New nails

Banish the brittle with Sally Hansen Diamond Cuticle + Nail Crème, £6.95.

14. Expert tips

Louise Constad recommends Shiseido The Makeup Corrector Pencil, £15, to minimise lines (just draw the pencil into the line and blend) and Shiseido eyelash curlers, £16, to open up your eyes.

15. Fringe benefit

A fringe can knock years off you, covering forehead lines far more cheaply than Botox! But a Cleopatra is too severe for most, so try a longer, sexy side-swept look instead.

16. Lip service

It can be tricky to treat lines around the mouth, but I think Prescriptives Super Line Preventor Xtreme Lifting Concentrate, £30, gets results. It smoothes lines immediately but also works longer term to plump skin. Use around your eyes too.

17. Nail fix

Thick, discoloured or ridged nails can give away your age, so use a buffer with different grades of surface, such as Sally Hansen Ridge Reducer & 7 Step Buffer, £2.99, to smooth and gloss.

18. Ban grey

Clairol Perfect 10, £6.99, is a great new home colourant that covers grey completely in just 10 minutes. It works at a lower pH level than traditional dyes, so preserving your hair's natural protective coating, reducing damage and keeping it youthful.

19. Hair boost

Hair gets thinner and flatter with age, so give it body with Shu Uemura Muroto Volume Amplifying Shampoo, £20, and Conditioner, £27.50. Charles Worthington Dream Hair Heavenly Body Thickening Shampoo, £5.49, also volumises fine hair. Use Toni & Guy Boost-It Mousse, £5.99, for root lift.

20. Skin tip

Protect your skin from UVA rays all year round. While UVB rays are less of a risk in the winter months, UVA is always present and penetrates deeply into your skin, causing changes that lead to premature ageing, so use a day cream with inbuilt sun filters.

If your skin is dry, try Dr Nick Lowe The Secret is Out SPF15 Day Cream, £24.95. Packed with antioxidants, it also firms and tones. RoC Hydra + Bio Active SPF15, £12.95, is gentle enough for sensitive skin. A favourite of mine, designed for 20 or 30somethings, is Boots No7 Time Resisting Day Cream, £17, with SPF15 and light-reflective particles for instant radiance.
