Budget beauty buys: SHE reader favourites

The change of seasons means a change of beauty products. Glow-giving self-tans and bronzers are just what you need to perk yourself up and feel sexier. If you've got a holiday to look forward to, then sun protection and de-fuzzing become essential. But what to buy? We thought we'd turn the tables and ask you for your favourites. The poll here on All About You really delivered, as you revealed your best performing, value-for-money buys. And the winners are...

FOR THE BODY

Best body moisturiser

The Body Shop Body Butter, from £5; Dove ProAge Beauty Body Lotion, £4.88; and Sarah Jessica Parker Covet Rich Body Lotion, £15.

Why? The Body Shop's body butters have been bestsellers for years, offering long-lasting hydration, a variety of scents and great value. You'll love the latest addition, Wild Cherry, £6.25, with wild cherry oil.

You also rate Dove ProAge Body Lotion. Perfect for mature skin, it hydrates with glycerin and olive oil and also contains fruit acids to exfoliate skin and a low SPF5 to provide a little sun protection.

Finally, the Sarah Jessica Parker Covet Rich Body Lotion comes out tops for a luxurious treat.

Best body fake tan

Johnson's Holiday Skin Body Lotion, £4.88, and Estée Lauder Golden Perfection Tinted Self-Tanning Gelée, £20.

Why? The first of the gradual tanners to combine body lotion with low levels of self-tan, Johnson's classic lotion still tops your list, despite numerous rivals. It gives a natural tan after three to four days, which you can then maintain with regular use, and comes in normal to fair, and normal to dark.

Best bronzer

Winner: Avon Arabian Glow Bronzing Pearls, £8.50.

Why? These multi-tonal pearls contour, colour and highlight harmoniously, giving

best used with a big brush and swept high on cheekbones and temples.

Best body scrub

Winner: The Sanctuary Salt Scrub, £8.95.

Best hair remover

Veet In-Shower Hair Removal Cream, £6.25, and Gillette Venus Embrace Razor, £6.99.

Why? Perfect for busy women, Veet cream dissolves hair slowly on contact with water. The sponge removes hair and exfoliates, so your skin is soft, just like a salon wax, but at a fraction of the cost.

For quick results, Gillette razors topped our poll. Best of all is the Venus Embrace, with five flexible blades.

SUNCARE

Best body sun protection

Soltan Once Takeaway Lotion, from £7.18.

Why: Offered with a variety of SPFs, from 15 to 40, all of which contain the maximum amount of UVA protection, you feel this formulation offers long-lasting protection at value-for-money prices. The 75ml pouches got special mention as brilliant for family days out.

Best facial sun protection

Nivea Sun DNAge Anti-Ageing Face Sun Cream, £16.10.

Why? Non-greasy and water-resistant, you love the way this cream protects without making your skin feel gunky. Its formulation also helps to protect your skin cells' DNA from sun-induced premature ageing.

Best hair protection

Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Sleek Intensive Treatment, £3.99, and Kérastase Micro-Voile Protecteur, £16.50.

Why? As a once a week treatment, you can't beat Pantene's intensive treatment, according to our poll. It both nourishes and helps to calm frizziness.

Just as you protect your skin against sun damage, this non-greasy Kérastase spray protects hair from UV rays (and sea and chlorinated water). You say it's great for slowing colour fade and keeping coloured hair fresh and vibrant.

Best sun protection for kids

Nivea Sun Children's Sun Spray, £11.74.

Why? Not only is it really water-resistant, so ideal for children who are constantly dipping in and out of the pool and sea, but this spray is also green in colour, making it easy to apply properly over wriggly bodies! A real essential.
