Drop a dress size: the designer
Top tips to dressing slim from those in the know: fashion designer Nick Georgiou, reveals his secrets
Nick's top three tips for dressing slim
1. Always be aware of your body shape, and remember it's all about balance - this season's bright colours are great worn on top, just add black or dark-coloured bottoms for a bold, balanced look.
2. Long-line shapes are great for a curvy figure, but if you're looking for a smock top, choose one with less gathering or fullness around the bust. Opt for A-line shapes that enhance curves and skim over lumps or bumps.
3. Geometric and abstract print tops, in either woven satin or jersey, flatter the larger figure (and it helps if they have a back tie that you can adjust to suit your body shape). If you have good legs, wear long-line printed or colour-blocked tops with black leggings or slim leg trousers.
Nick's five failsafe design rules
1. A single-breasted jacket is far more flattering than a double-breasted.
2. Avoid too much volume or excess fabric. Too much fabric, in the form of gathers and pleats, can make the wearer look larger.
3. Stripes are fine but avoid overly big block stripes and use graduated or smaller stripes in complimentary colours and tones.
4. Try to ensure that necklines are not too low or too high, and use wider straps to help hide bra straps.
5. Avoid large ruffles - either at the front or on the sleeves - they add too much visual weight. And very clingy jersey is not a good look. Always go for jersey that skims the body rather than clings.
