Breakfast at Tiffanys
Fashion and film have always gone hand in hand, and with the awards season drawing to a close for another year, Good Housekeeping has turned to the silver-screen to look at some of the most influential and swoon-worthy fashion.
Iconic film \'Breakfast at Tiffany’s\' (1961) saw Audrey Hepburn at her best as kooky socialite Holly Golightly. Hepburn’s clothes were exclusively designed for her by Hubert de Givenchy who said of her “there is not a woman alive who does not dream of looking like Audrey Hepburn,” and who could argue with that?! In this pared down black dress, rows of pearls, mini tiara and over-sized glasses, Hepburn has inspired generations of women and designers alike.

Along with winning an Oscar for Best Actress in \'Annie Hall\' (1977), Diane Keaton also created a 1970\'s fashion sensation with her mix of masculine and feminine. Working with Ralph Lauren, costume designer Ruth Murley tapped into an iconic style with the use of shirts, waistcoats, ties and wide leg trousers that now characterises an era.

You can\'t have a discussion about film fashion without talking about \'Sex and the City\'. New York based designer and stylist Patricia Field has shot to fame for her quirky and fabulous fashion combinations in the series, and the film took this to new heights. Vera Wang, Chrisitan Dior, Oscar De La Renta, and who could forget that Vivienne Westwood wedding dress. Swoon. Even Mr Big\'s proposal involved the obligatory Manolo Blahnik. Love it or hate it, you can\'t deny that the SATC Movie was pure fashion porn from beginning to end.
Stunning Grace Kelly...

When you watch films like \'To Catch a Thief\', you can understand how Grace Kelly became a princess. Here she stars alongside Cary Grant as ‘The Cat\', a former thief who aims to prove his innocence of a series of jewel robberies with the help of an American heiress. Both silver-screen royalty, Grant and Kelly exude old fashioned style and elegance. This white strapless dress, the costume ball gown, not to mention the jewels, all make this film extravagant and utterly gorgeous.

Katharine Hepburn created a controversial style icon as she cultivated a love of trousers, suits and all-in-one jump suits. Her scandalous weakness for menswear showed off both her independence and femininity and "prompted generations of fashion designers to captivate her vitality and spirit", according to Calvin Klein.
In \'Bringing Up Baby\', she debuted her signature style, which had not been seen in films before. Famously on the set, the studio took away her trousers and demanded she wore a skirt - so, Katharine walked around the studio in her underwear until they returned them to her.

With all the fabulous outfits Audrey Hepburn wore over the years, it is fair to say we could fill an entire gallery just with images of her. However, Hepburn was not just known for the amazing Givenchy gowns. Here she is seen in cropped capri trousers, simple black top and pumps - a look which still inspires fashion today. This chic and simple outfit, as seen in \'Sabrina\' - with a similar look seen in Funny Face - provided a great contrast to her usual elegant dresses.
Madge defines an era...

There is nothing that sums up 1980\'s fashion more than Madonna in \'Desperately Seeking Susan\'. Chosen for her sense of style, not her acting abilities (as a result, she was sent on an acting course prior to filming...don\'t worry Madge, we\'re not judging....), Madonna covered an era in black lace, gold lame, beads, crosses and the ever popular poodle perm. And for all of you who have ever dreamed of it, yes, apparently you can go out in public in just your bra.
