Five essential makeup tips for party glamour
Top makeup artist Jemma Kidd reveals her five secret tips for party makeup Use her simple step-by-step techniques to turn heads
Do eye makeup first
Many women tend to opt for heavier eye make-up for an evening out, often using heavy pigments or glitter. Stray flecks of eye shadow and mascara can fall onto the face and result in smudged foundation. An easy way to avoid this is to do your eye make-up before the rest of your face, that way if anything smudges you can simply wipe off.
Choose your base carefully
Choosing the wrong colour foundation is such a common mistake - usually women go for a shade that is too dark as they are trying to warm up their skin tone. It is important to colour match your foundation perfectly so that it disappears into the skin You can then bring warmth to the skin using bronzers and blushers.
Sheer coverage
Instead of applying a heavy layer of foundation opt for sheer formula foundations or tinted moisturisers. Then use concealer to disguise imperfections such as blemishes, redness or dark circles. This will give a more natural and flattering finish.
Make eyes look bigger
For fabulous lashes make sure you curl them before applying mascara, this will instantly open up the eyes. Start as close to the root as possible and curl two or three times, each time moving the curlers a few millimetres up the lashes. Finish by applying mascara to define and frame the eyes. (This is one of the things not to do in the back of a bumpy cab!).
Lipstick that lasts
Long-wear lipsticks can be drying, so to make lipstick last longer without the drying effect start by using a lip primer. This will help prevent lipstick bleeding and will ensure longer-lasting hold. Use a waxy lip liner to line and fill the whole lip area and lastly press your lipstick into the lips rather than wiping casually.
