Best ever beauty tips: wearing blusher

pile of broken blusher

Whether you go for a barely there look or fully flushed, applying colour to cheeks is an instant glow-getter and the prettiest way to stop you from looking washed out on dreary mornings.

Choosing the right colour

Natural-looking shades in subtle, muted tones suit most skin tones - go for colours like rose, apricot or soft berry - and choose stronger colours only if you have darker skin.

Cream versus powder
Cream blush is perfect for adding an instant glow to cheeks, particularly if you have dry or uneven patches. Apply it on top of foundation or even to naked skin.

How to: pat a few dots to the apples of cheeks and blend with your middle or ring finger, or use a cream blusher brush.

Powder blush is ideal for creating a soft diffusion of colour across cheeks. Always apply to skin prepped with powder, otherwise the colour pigments will fall unevenly onto skin resulting in a blotchy look.

How to: use the side of a blusher brush to add a small amount of colour to the apples of cheeks. Blend softly in a circular motion across the cheekbone towards the ear. Avoid going to close to your nose or up to your temples (sides of the eyes) as blush should always stay on your cheekbones.

Essential tip: never shade a particular shape onto your face - there should be no circles, stripes or cheek marks. Aim for a natural and fluid flush of colour.
