Makeup tricks for radiant skin
Achieve a natural-looking makeup finish in a few simple steps with SHE magazine's radiant advice
If your attempts to look dewy and glowing owe more to being harassed and make-up free than fresh and flawless, read on - and in just a few simple steps, release your inner radiance.
Fresh and flawless
The key to heavenly skin is exfoliation, hydration and a great foundation to give it a dewy, natural-looking finish. Buff skin twice a week with Darphin Exfoliating Foam Gel, £25 (1), to get rid of any dull dead skin cells. After cleansing, apply Olay Total Effects Wake Up Wonder, £13.99, which delivers a hydration hit and creates a youthful luminosity. Don't forget to wear an intense SPF, such as Kéraskin Voile Ultime SPF30, £35 (2), which can be worn over any moisturiser to give UV protection. Finish with a layer of L'Oréal Paris Matte Morphose Foundation, £9.99 (3)
Divine eyes
A subtle wash of green on lids will complement any eye colour. We love Max Factor Colour Effect Dip In Eye Shadow in Vibrant Turquoise, £5.99 (1). "Sweep along your top lid and into the socket, blending the edges away with your fingertip," says Caroline Barnes, make-up artist for Max Factor. For a bolder evening look, apply along the lower lashline too. Keep brows in shape with Jemma Kidd Brow & Eye Kit, £24 (3), and finish with a coat of L'Oréal Volume Million Lashes Mascara, £10.99 (2).
Heavenly lips
By opting for pale lips, you'll instantly add a burst of freshness to your look. First, prep lips with a moisturising balm, such as Bobbi Brown Lip Balm SPF15, £13.50 (2). "When choosing your lip colour, go two shades lighter than your natural colour for a flattering shade," advises Caroline. If you have naturally deep coloured lips, apply a neutralising concealer first, such as Dior Diorskin Nude Skin Perfecting Hydrating Concealer, £19 (1). Then add your lipstick. Revlon Colorbust Lipsticks, £7.99 (3), offer a brilliant selection of pale shades.
Sublime cheeks
Applying blusher where you naturally flush - towards the front of your face and not above the cheekbones - will give the best natural-looking results. "If you're pale-skinned, go for a sheerer, lighter blusher. The darker your skin, the darker the pigment can be," says Caroline. Try L'Oréal Paris Glam Bronze Blush Duo, £9.99 (3). For bronzer, we love Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel, £31 (1). Using a brush (2), dust where the sun naturally tans your face: over cheekbones, across your forehead (near the hairline), down the bridge of your nose and along your chin.
