Nail it
As seen at - Chanel
Product - Chanel Vernis in Jade, £19, available mid October; Diabolic, £16, available from September, 020 7493 3836
OK so Chanel were not the only ones to show beautifully painted nails this season, but they were certainly the most memorable. Complimenting the touches of jade and pink that punctuated the show, Le Vernis in Jade is the nail colour of the season, unique and utterly wearable. If the thought of green nails is a step too far for you, look no further than their delicious new shade Diabolic. Don't forget to pop into the new Chanel makeup store in Selfridges, Oxford Street from September 8 to feast your eyes on the 125 lip colours, 26 nail colours and 45 eye colours, we'll race you there.
Biscuit nudes
As seen at - Chloe and Alessandro Del Aqua
Product - Nudes Eye Palette, £42, Bobbi Brown
As with the lips, trends for the eye fall into two camps this season, the first of which is warm, biscuit hues, perfect for autumn. Keep the look simple for day with just the one shade across the eye or blend two or three for a more dramatic night time look. Bobbi Brown's new palette has all the nudes you need for a multitude of looks, all tinged with just the right amount of shimmer.
The eyes have it
As seen at - Versace and Louis Vuitton
Product - Easy liner, £21, YSL; Ombre Absolue Palette in Parures d'Etoiles, £33, Lancome; both available nationwide.
Just like red lipstick, the smoky eyes is timeless, but for an update why not try layering soft dove greys rather than black, or adding a hint of blue when the festive season falls. Lancome's gorgeous palette is perfect for this. Whatever colour you choose, this season calls for a steady hand to create Bridgette Bardot-inspired flicks with a liquid liner. YSL's Easy Liner gives a strong line and is easy to apply.
Up, up and away
As seen at - Dior and YSL
Product - Kirby grip
This is the season of the up-do, and whether it's a classic chignon or a towering beehive you'll need lashings of spray and countless Kirby grips. Use in excess as hair ornaments a la Dior, or use them to create timeless styles such as those seen at Yves Saint Laurent. Create volume at the root using a fine toothed comb and a texturising spray, then use the kirby grips to pin up your hair however you choose, smoothing as you go.
Vanilla essence
Product - Vanilla and Anise Cologne, £64, Jo Malone
As this season's makeup is all about nostalgia, from the 80s full face or 40s red lip and great skin, it seems only fitting that our favourite new season product is a reworking of a much beleaguered scent, vanilla. The wizards of Jo Malone have managed to filter out the sickly sweetness that often plagues vanilla-based perfumes to create Vanilla and Anise, their first vanilla-based scent. Created with the fleeting scent of the rare vanilla orchid and spicy anise, this is a classic in the making and one to treasure.
