Skin SOS: Sensitivity
Does your skin flare up more easily in the summer? If you have normal skin in the winter that becomes a lot more sensitive in summer, its likely because the heat has caused
your pores to open, increasing perspiration and changing how your skin reacts to products. First thing to do is to change your cleanser. You need a gentle product, such as the
Elemis Melting Cleansing Gel, £19.40. (If you use anything too harsh, your skin will spend all its time replenishing what your cleanser takes out, rather than working to soothe
your skin.)
Celebrity facialist Anastasia Achilleos recommends you use a warm muslin cloth to wash your face and remove the days make-up. It gently exfoliates and oxygenates the skin without being too abrasive. It also means you can avoid using grainy exfoliators and it gives skin an instant glow. Also stay away from anything that contains glycolic acid. It will make skin even more sensitive as you are revealing a fresh layer of skin, which will be easily damaged if exposed to UV light. Make sure your moisturiser is bursting with antioxidants, such as vitamin C, to ease your skin through this transition period, says Dr Lieve Declercq, Origins global spokesperson.
