The Queen, in keeping with tradition on this auspicious occasion, was dressed by Angela Kelly, her 'personal advisor and curator in jewellery, insignia and wardrobe'. She wore a crepe wool primrose coat and matching hat with handmade silk roses - proving nicely that you don't need to be afraid of colour as you age.

Looking stylish in a sky blue silk dress and matching wool crepe coat-dress, mother of the bride Carole Middleton wore Catherine Walker - a poignant choice as the designer was a favourite of the late Princess Diana. Mrs Middleton's hat was designed by Berkshire-based designer Jane Corbett.

And of course the bride herself famously plumped for the House of McQueen, with this beautiful floor-length ivory silk and lace dress designed by Sarah Burton. The fitted waist and padded hips are a nod to Victorian styling, the train was an understated 2.7 metres long and the big news in dresses is ... sleeves are back!

London-based milliner Philip Treacy who hails from Ahascragh in the west of Ireland was in huge demand as the hat designer of choice for the Royal Wedding - providing over 30 hats on the day, including this eye-catching number elegantly modelled by Lady Frederick Windsor.
