Creating a capsule wardrobe can be very helpful to a lot of people – though I don’t think it’s something that the media or people who work in fashion should dictate. I don’t want to say, “Every woman must have this,” it’s about creating options. It’s just easier when there are less clothes to choose from, and when items are interchangeable. It’s about simplicity. So, for example, a biker jacket can be worn with a ‘50s print dress, a pencil skirt or a pair of cigarette pants.

Glamour and femininity comes from personal investment. I dont believe in saying theres such a thing as a mid-life crisis. I dont think women in their 40s and 50s should be put under that pressure, otherwise were all going to dread this era. Women who have worked incredibly hard should celebrate by spending time on grooming and choosing clothing that will help improve confidence.
There are a lot of contributing factors to looking good, like lifestyle, budget and personality. It’s important to understand what suits your body shape and tailoring is a great way to add proportion – just by pulling on a jacket you can instantly look elegant and chic. And before you ask, you can’t tell my collection is from a supermarket, the quality is good, we don’t scrimp on material!

This is one of my favourite pieces - it has a hidden band at the front that helps smooth the tummy and an underskirt which stays in place. Monochrome always looks smart, but the pencil skirt works with anything; with a printed blouse, a white shirt or simple sweater.

Everyone's done peplums for spring, theyre such fun and surprisingly easy to wear. Shoulder pads help keep a pear or apple-shape in proportion and the sculpted peplum shape balances out a top-heavy figure. Its got a secret lipstick pocket too!

These feel more expensive than they actually are! Theres a hidden panel at the front to flatten the tummy and jet pockets at the back, to give a smoother silhouette. For a more relaxed look try these pants with a sweater and plimsolls. The whole idea behind this collection is what a starlet in the 40s and 50s wears when shes not on the film set.

All the dresses have magic underwear sewn in and are designed to flatter the body and show off curves. I want women to know that when they put one on, its going to work. All thats left to do is whack on a pair of heels.

The jersey is cleverly twisted at the front to complement curves, so you know instantly that this is going to flatter the figure and cover lumps and bumps. This is my show-stopping frock and its only 20 quid!

I was inspired by the film In The Mood For Love, and wanted to make a print that was bold but workable. I dont want women to panic about wearing it! This dress would look cute with ballet pumps or flip-flops in summer then whack on a cropped jacket or throw a pink sweater over your shoulders.
