The perfect spa weekend getaway
New Park Manor Hotel in Hampshire is a welcoming countryside retreat. Catherine Everett visited
Perfectly situated in a secluded spot in the heart of the New Forest, New Park Manor Hotel boasts a reputation of being fit for royalty and it's not difficult to see why. Previously an old hunting lodge used by King Charles II, this luxury hotel and spa allows you to enjoy its unspoilt traditional beauty while being modern where it counts.
As I step over the threshold, I am greeted by a smiling member of staff and immediately made to feel at ease. I was lucky enough to be shown to one of the three four-poster rooms in the hotel which is beautifully decorated with luxurious curtains and pillows - topped off with a sumptuous duvet. The bathroom boasts a deep free-standing bath and original windows with ivy lurking behind the panes.
I was also delighted to find that the usual ‘do not disturb' door sign had been replaced with a cuddly toy horse called Humphrey who promises to guard my room when I'm asleep. But, although it is tempting to relax in the sanctuary of my bedroom for the rest of the afternoon, I quickly change into my fluffy white robe and slippers to find out how much more there is to explore.
Leisure Facilities
When I reach the spa, I have a dip in the 16-metre swimming pool which boasts fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. There is also a sauna, jacuzzi and aromatherapy room that are designed to help you make the most of the hotel's stunning location. I must admit that I was disappointed not to get an opportunity to try out the outdoor hot tub but each time it became available I was beaten to the chase by eagle-eyed young couples!
Top Treatments
I spend a few minutes relaxing in the waiting area before being called for my treatment. I was then met by a friendly therapist who talked me through what I would like to gain from my facial. I chose to have the organic facial which starts with a gentle massage to the shoulder area, then is followed by a gentle exfoliation and an organic mask made from fresh strawberries. Wildflower honey was then massaged into my skin with a rose quartz crystal which is used to soften and heal the skin. My treatment was finally topped off with a facial massage with floral oil and my skin was left feeling smooth and radiant.
Over an hour later, I could either take off to a quiet room with a good book, enjoy a light lunch in the bar or, had I been feeling up to it, borrow a pair of Wellington boots from the hotel and explore the nearby woodland. I decided to head back to my room to try out my luxurious bath before dinner!
Dinner
After all that relaxing I had worked up a healthy appetite and made my way to the charming Stag Restaurant, which serves modern British cuisine including a wide selection of local game. After leaving not a single bite of each of my four courses, I then headed to the bar where I topped of my stay with a chilled glass of white wine. Feeling refreshed and well-rested, New Park Manor was the perfect weekend getaway.
